3. Grammar
- Every noun starts with a capital letter.
- Adjectives and adverbs often have identical form. They are not distinguished as mush as in English.
- The comparative and superlative adjective are suffixed with -er and -ste.
3.1. Declensions
3.1.1. Articles
| ꜱɢ.ᴍ | ꜱɢ.ꜰ | ꜱɢ.ɴ | ᴘʟ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ɴᴏᴍ | der, ein | die, eine | das, ein | die, - |
| ᴀᴄᴄ | den, einen | die, eine | das, ein | die, - |
| ᴅᴀᴛ | dem, einem | der, einer | dem, einem | den, - |
| ɢᴇɴ | des, eines | der, einer | des, eines | der, - |
- The dative articles often get contracted into the prepositions.
- e.g. an dem into am.
3.1.2. Attributive Adjectives
3.1.2.1. Strong Inflection
Used when:
- there is no preceding article,
- or the preceding article does not fully indicate the case, gender, and number of the noun.
| ꜱɢ.ᴍ | ꜱɢ.ꜰ | ꜱɢ.ɴ | ᴘʟ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ɴᴏᴍ | -er | -e | -es | -e |
| ᴀᴄᴄ | -en | -e | -es | -e |
| ᴅᴀᴛ | -em | -er | -em | -en |
| ɢᴇɴ | -en | -er | -en | -er |
One instance this happens is when a noun phrase is used as genetive. The masculine singular and neuter singular are still "weak", because the genetive marker is attached to the noun itself.
3.1.2.2. Weak Inflection
Used when:
- definite article or demonstrative pronouns are used
- here, the article itself clearly indicates case, gender, and number.
| ꜱɢ.ᴍ | ꜱɢ.ꜰ | ꜱɢ.ɴ | ᴘʟ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ɴᴏᴍ | -e | -e | -e | -en |
| ᴀᴄᴄ | -en | -e | -e | -en |
| ᴅᴀᴛ | -en | -en | -en | -en |
| ɢᴇɴ | -en | -en | -en | -en |
-en is used when the noun is marked with plural or case marker. Otherwise, -e is used for unmarked.
3.1.2.3. Mixed Inflection
Used when:
- there is a preceding indefinite article, or possessive determiner.
- ein, dein, sein, kein, etc.
| ꜱɢ.ᴍ | ꜱɢ.ꜰ | ꜱɢ.ɴ | ᴘʟ | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ɴᴏᴍ | -er | -e | -es | -en |
| ᴀᴄᴄ | -en | -e | -es | -en |
| ᴅᴀᴛ | -en | -en | -en | -en |
| ɢᴇɴ | -en | -en | -en | -en |
The masculine singular and neuter singular is not discriminated by those determiners.
3.1.3. Nouns

| ꜰ | mostly does not decline | |
| ɴ |
